You may experience or exhibit one or all of these common symptoms of hearing loss:
If you have any signs of hearing loss, you will want to get a comprehensive hearing test performed by a qualified healthcare provider.
A full comprehensive hearing test can take anywhere from 30-45 minutes. You should plan to be in a hearing evaluation for at least an hour to complete the testing and review of your results. A complete test should include the following:
1. Pure Tone Air Audiometry (PTA)
2. Bone Conduction (BC) - A Bone Oscillator is placed on your forehead or behind your ear.
3. MCL & UCL Testing (in PTA and Speech Recognition) (Most Comfortable & Uncomfortable Listening Scores)
4. Speech Recognition/Reception Threshold (SRT) Testing
This is a question we receive all of the time. With so many options of technology available, how do you know what level is right for YOU?
Hearing aids usually come in four different levels of technology -
Entry (Basic), Mid (Standard), Advanced, and Premium.
The simple answer is that the technology level is not about the power of output from one level to the next, but more about the finer details that each level of technology offers. There are 3 main things to consider when selecting the right hearing aid for you:
1. # of channels capable of being programmed to sound - the more channels a hearing aid has available, the more independently sound is processed and programmed. More frequencies = More clarity, and in turn, better sound. Better sound = Less work for your brain to fill in the blanks.
2. How the hearing aid adjusts to environmental classifications and how many classifications the hearing aid has - higher levels of technology have the ability to classify more sound environments and auto-adjust programming to that environment without you having to do anything to your programming. For example, the entry level technology may only have 2 environmental classifications like Quiet and Noise environments, where premium technology is going to give you much more, like Quiet, Noise, Outdoors, Light Music, Concerts, Auditoriums, Car Noise, etc.
3. The features available and quality of said features - these are like "bonus add-ons" to the tech that already exists, and what features you get solely depends on the level of technology you select. Options like Calm, Speech in Noise, Comfort in Noise, Music, Speech in Loud noise, Speech in the car, Hearing in an Echo environment, streaming speech and music, etc.
When it comes right down to it and you want the honest answer of "What Technology Level is REALLY right for ME?" - it really comes down to your LIFESTYLE. How active you are, the events you attend or participate in, how hard you want your brain to work, etc. The transparent truth is that if you are someone who doesn't do a lot of public activities and you are more of a homebody, then a standard or mid level technology could be the right choice for your needs.
But if you're someone who is out and about, going to different places and events, restaurants, movies, golfing, etc. and you love being a social butterfly... then you will definitely want to consider advanced or premium level technology to get the most usability out of your hearing aids.
And let's be honest - this is a 3-7 year commitment to a product and service, so you want to get the most out of the investment you are making in your hearing and brain health.
Vibroacoustic therapy is a new sound technology that uses audible sound vibrations to reduce symptoms, invoke relaxation, and alleviate stress. This technology is developed based on the recognition that external vibration can influence body function and involves passing low frequency sine wave vibrations into the body via a device with embedded speakers.
